Current status
Record the full message and code before applying a fix.
- Team17's support thread lists WD-L004, WD-L006, WD-L007, WD-L010, WD-L014 and WD-L020 as reported launch codes.
- Team17 has not published a complete public one-line meaning for every WD-L code.
- Update 0.1.2 fixed the Windows 11 WD-L020 crash caused by KB5124010. If you still see WD-L020, update WARDOGS first before considering older rollback advice.
- For other codes, start with Steam verification, the stable GPU driver and Elytra Repair.
- A numeric 1413677057 message has dated player reports, not an established official code definition. Read its separate checks below.
Do not trust a third-party “code dictionary” that assigns a precise cause to every WD-L code without an official source.

WD-L020: fixed in Update 0.1.2
BULKHEAD's official Update 0.1.2 patch notes state that the Windows 11 WD-L020 crash caused by KB5124010 was fixed on the game side.
If WARDOGS is fully updated and WD-L020 still appears, treat it as a fresh troubleshooting case: verify the game build, restart Steam and Windows, verify files, and then follow the current support path instead of assuming the old Windows-update workaround still applies.
1413677057: “An unexpected error has occured.”
Player-reported · sources checked October 14, 2026. A September 11 Steam thread records this exact message. An October 11 report shows the same number. The sources checked here do not establish a code-specific official cause or verified fix; the number alone does not establish a ban or identify the WD-L020 Windows issue.
- Check Steam Online and pending game updates. The September thread includes a player who recovered after Steam offered a client update. This is a dated observation, not proof of the cause.
- Verify the game files and restart Steam.Finish pending downloads before testing once. Use the supplied client, not a third-party “fixer.”
- If Retry is available, wait briefly before trying once.September players reported recovery after five to ten minutes. Waiting is not a guaranteed fix; repeated failure needs another diagnosis.
- Compare a normal connection if login still fails. The October poster reported recovery after a connection-path change. Team17's general support guidance suggests a mobile-hotspot comparison for network diagnosis; neither establishes this code's cause. No paid booster is required by this guide.
If it persists, save the complete message, screenshot, game build, time and failure stage for Team17's Report a Problem forum. Do not disable security features or assume a permanent ban from an unverified reply.
Default repair order for WD-L004, 006, 007, 010 and 014
- Verify WARDOGS files in Steam.Repair missing or corrupt game files before reinstalling the whole game.
- Update the stable GPU driver.Use the normal NVIDIA, AMD or Intel release channel.
- Repair Elytra.Run the Elytra setup inside the WARDOGS installation and choose Repair.
- Restart Windows.Retest once and record whether the code changed.
Team17's pinned crash thread also lists more invasive workarounds for some systems. Treat those as code- and machine-specific troubleshooting, not the universal first step.
Report the code with enough context to be useful
- The complete message and code, including any WD-L suffix or numeric code.
- Whether the failure occurs in the launcher, before the menu or during shader compilation.
- Windows edition and whether KB5124010 is installed when the code is WD-L020.
- GPU model and current driver version.
- Whether Steam verification and Elytra Repair completed successfully.
Common questions
What does error 1413677057 mean?
Players have reported it with “An unexpected error has occured.” The checked sources do not establish a code-specific official meaning, a guaranteed repair or a ban. Use the dated numeric-code checks above and preserve the full message if it persists.
Does WD-L020 still mean I should uninstall KB5124010?
No. Update 0.1.2 fixed the known Windows 11 WD-L020 crash caused by KB5124010. Keep WARDOGS updated first; use the older rollback notice only as historical context when diagnosing an unusual unresolved case.
What exactly does WD-L014 mean?
Team17 acknowledges WD-L014 as a launch problem but has not published a complete public code dictionary that assigns one verified root cause to it.
Should I disable Memory Integrity?
Not as a generic first step. That weakens a Windows security feature. Start with file verification, stable drivers and Elytra Repair; only consider security-sensitive changes when your exact support path calls for them.
