Official first-line sequence
Verify the game, repair Elytra, restart Windows.
- Verify WARDOGS files through Steam.
- Open the local game folder and enter the Elytra folder.
- Run Elytra-Setup.exe and choose Repair.
- Update the graphics driver, then restart Windows before testing again.
If the launcher shows a WD-L code, use the dedicated WARDOGS error-code guide for the current code status. This page stays focused on Elytra repair and anti-cheat failures.
Identify whether Elytra is the failing stage
Do not infer a cause from the letters in a WD-L code. The exact code, when it appears and whether Windows writes a game log are more useful than an unofficial code dictionary.
Follow the safe repair order
- 01
Verify WARDOGS in Steam
Open Library → WARDOGS → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. Let Steam complete the check.
- 02
Repair the bundled Elytra installation
Choose Manage → Browse local files, open the Elytra folder, run Elytra-Setup.exe and select Repair.
- 03
Check normal security blocks
Confirm Windows Security, the firewall or a third-party antivirus did not quarantine WARDOGS or Elytra. Restore only a file you can verify came from the Steam installation.
- 04
Update the stable GPU driver
Use NVIDIA, AMD or Intel's normal stable channel. This is part of Team17's published crash sequence even when the visible error mentions Elytra.
- 05
Restart, then test once
A full restart ensures the repaired service and driver state are loaded. Record the new code if the result changes.
Windows N editions need one extra check
Team17 Support has asked affected Windows N users to install Microsoft's official Media Feature Pack. Check Settings → System → About before using this route; ordinary Windows editions do not need the N-specific package.
Install it through Windows optional features or Microsoft's documented route, restart, and test again. Do not download media components from an unofficial mirror.
Avoid high-risk guesswork
- Do not disable Memory Integrity, Secure Boot or virtualization by default. Those changes weaken security and are not part of the universal first-line repair.
- Do not run copied command lists blindly. A command that helped one unusual driver conflict may be irrelevant to your machine.
- Do not download Elytra DLL files separately. Use Steam verification and the bundled repair tool.
- Do not remove several security products and drivers together. You lose the ability to identify the actual conflict.
- Do not treat a changed error code as success. Record it and continue with evidence.
Report a persistent error with useful evidence
If the official sequence fails, post in WARDOGS' Report a Problem forum or contact Team17 Support with:
- The complete WD-L or Windows crash code.
- The exact last screen visible before failure.
- Your Windows edition, CPU, GPU and current graphics-driver version.
- Whether Steam verification and Elytra Repair completed successfully.
- A DxDiag report when support requests one—remove personal information before posting publicly.
Common questions
Is Elytra the same as Easy Anti-Cheat?
No. WARDOGS currently uses Elytra. Players often search for “Easy Anti-Cheat” as a generic phrase, but the repair tool and service in the game folder are branded Elytra.
Should I reinstall WARDOGS?
Not first. Steam verification and the bundled Elytra Repair are faster and preserve a clearer diagnosis. Reinstall only after the official sequence fails.
What does WD-L014 or WD-L020 mean?
See the WARDOGS error-code guide for the current official status. Keep Elytra repair on this page and code-specific status on the dedicated hub.
Should I disable antivirus?
Check whether it blocked or quarantined a verified game file, but do not leave protection disabled as a routine workaround. Add an exception only when you can verify the target came from the Steam installation.
Sources and verification
Developer information and community observations are labelled separately. A player report is not a guarantee from the developer. Use the stated source-check dates; a later page edit does not recheck the underlying game data.
